ICAF 2009, Bridging the Gap between Theory and Operational Practice

These Proceedings will consist of reviews of aeronautical fatigue activities presented by the national delegates of the 14 member nations of ICAF. It will also contain specialist papers presented by international authors with design, manufacturing, airworthiness regulations, operations and research backgrounds. The papers will be based on the theme “Bridging the gap between theory and operational practice”. The 31st Conference and the 25th Symposium of the International Committee on Aeronautical Fatigue will be hosted in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, by the National Aerospace Laboratory NLR, under the auspices of the Netherlands Association of Aeronautical Engineers NVvL, the Technical University of Delft and Stork Fokker AESP B.V. Rubber Seals for Fluid and Hydraulic Systems

This book focuses on the characteristics of rubbers as seals, their manufacturing procedures, the implications of their physical and chemical characteristics for the sealing function in the fluid and hydraulic systems, how rubbers seal and prevent leaks, what properties are required for sealing function, and how they change before and after installation.Rubber Seals for Fluid and Hydraulic Systems is a comprehensive guide to the manufacturing and applications of rubber seals, with essential coverage for industry sectors including aviation, oil drilling and the automotive industry. The chapter on Manufacture of Seals and 'O'Rings includes approximately 25 workable starting point formulations based on different rubbers, with cure and property data of those formulations as guidelines for technologists and engineers. Multiscale Modeling in Continuum Mechanics and Structured Deformations

The Multiscale Modeling in Continuum Mechanics and Structured Deformations (CISM International Centre for Mechanical Sciences)The purpose of the book is to present some recent progress in two active and related areas of continuum mechanics: fracture mechanics and structured deformations. The book may be divided into two parts. The first part deals with the theory of structured deformations, a basic concept that can be used to describe smooth and nonsmooth geometrical changes at different length scales, including, for example, both slip and microslip and, of particular interest in the second part of this course, both macroscopic fracture and microfracture. The work presents an updated account of the state-of-the-art in the subject. Links

Thermodynamics DeMYSTiFied

Thermodynamics Demystified begins by reviewing basic principles and discussing the properties of pure substances. The book goes on to cover laws of thermodynamics, power and refrigeration cycles, psychrometrics, combustion, and much more. Hundreds of worked examples and equations make it easy to understand the material, and end-of-chapter quizzes and two final exams help reinforce learning. This hands-on, self-teaching text offers, Numerous figures to illustrate key concepts, Details on the first and second laws of thermodynamics, Coverage of vapor and gas cycles, psychrometrics, and combustion, An overview of heat transfer SI units throughout, A time-saving approach to performing better on an exam or at work.
